What is the best way and cheapest way to do OCR in the cloud?
I am also looking for an answer to your question also. I was talking to some developers recently who highly rated Abbyy Cloud OCR SDK for accuracy but at a high price ( Plans and Pricing ) You can do a limited try out yourself for free as a developer. The cost kicks in when you go into production mode - unless you are a student and you might qualify for Free OCR SDK for Students . Abbyypetition is OmniPage but they doesn't seem to offer a Cloud SDK only a native app API ( OmniPage CSDK | OCR Document Capture SDK | OCR for Developers | Nuance ) - but i've reached out to them to confirm. You can try out their SDK at Wee to OmniPage Cloud Service Portal! s . I also came across this review from last year - The Best Online OCR Software for Converting Images to Text and it looks like the answer might be OnlineOCR - SOAP and REST Cloud API . The 3-day free trial allows for 25 items a day for free. It's not clear who is behind the service however so i wouldn't send any sensitive documents to it. Update There is an Abbyy subscription package available on Azure that gives you 1 pages a month for free - ABBYY Cloud OCR SDK Service on Microsoft Azure Marketplace s .
Why is search so bad in Google Drive?
1) Indeed time is needed for indexing recent files. 2) My best guess is because depending on the moment you are using it Google Drive displays results not only from one but several google drive servers. So you should try to wait a little (so that servers that have all your recent data are available) and open Google Drive again from scratch and it should find the file. Misc. notes - It will find only the first 1 pages for non-OCRed PDF files and the first 1 pages for OCRed PDF file. - If you have very big OCRed PDF file for instance 5 pages long the only way to search inside it is to preview it inside Google Drive wait that the file is loaded and then you can do a CTRL+F in it to bypass the 1 pages limit ! - Probably some similar limits exist for big files (= your old presentations ??) more or close to Million characters. Files you can store in Google Drive s About Optical Character Recognition in Google Drive s horizontal-rule Another factor that could count IMHO is the total number of files that you have into Google Drive. For instance I know I have more than 2 files into my Google Drive currently. I know that because I use syncdocs (I rmend this software for avoiding duplicate created by the default Google Drive uploader) and look into their log file. My guess is the more you have files the more Google Drive uses different servers. The problem is that Google Drive is not very transparent about this. You can try to confirm this guess by using a freeware like snooper2 for instance. The problem is that even if you can confirm this it won't solve your problem for sure ! ;(
Which is the better of the three, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive?
It depends on your use case. I've used all three on different occasions. I often find myself using Google drive when having to review spreadsheets or documents within a business where we would feed data and it would create graphs on the fly and live while showing them on a web browser. And a convinient way to forget about s videos and sound easily surpassing 2 megs per video etc and you forget to pause sync and autos ave office and OneDrive wants to sync up everything all the time eating up you upload bands and at times crashing PowerPoint. All services are good it just depends on the use case. I find OneDrive is more of a nas like feature intended for one user per account and an easy sharing feature amongst accounts. With a work from anywhere feature as long as you have internet access. Google drive tries topete in the office part with OneDrive but it's best feature is sharing documents via browser without needing to be logged into a Google account. Dropbox strongest feature is Lan sync and a great backup provider. So depending on your flavor and budget I'd go with either Google drive or OneDrive as a main provider because of their productivity software integration and drop box as a backup. Edit At a time I had the Dropbox folder within the OneDrive folder and it would backup to both services at the same time.
What's the best way to create online, long-term personal storage that is relatively secure, accessible, and searchable (full-text & OCR)?
You have two possible paths use an existing service or build your own. Building your own will require substantial technical knowledge and ability to program. You will need to acquire raw storage allow for uploads and downloads build indexing for search run documents through an OCR (either reusing one or building your own) login users verifying they can see write documents Just to put things in perspectivepanies like Microsoft Google or Dropbox have a little army of engineers solving these. That being said with the right skills and a bit of time in your hands this is possible. Another option is to use an existing service. Among the providers I am aware of these offer full search Google Drive Microsoft OneDrive Dropbox (business accounts) and Box. There could be others I am not aware of. I do not know for sure if Google Drive Dropbox or Box offer OCR capabilities but it is likely they do. I know OneDrive recently started integrating with Office Lens a service which provides OCR capabilities among other things. I have not used this capability enough toment on it.
Does any image search engine exist to search from text inside an image?
One more answer is that Microsoft OneNote and Evernote both free and available for both phone andputer (Windows but check for others as both have web versions) will do Optical Character Recognition (OCR) of in and extract the . Answering Does any ?
How private are cloud storage solutions like Dropbox and Google Drive?
Depends what you mean by private. Once you upload your files to Dropbox SkyDrive Google Drive they process your files extract the metadata such as file name file file date OCR etc. and maintain them as index in their database. That's how you are able to explore and search your files in their web application. Google Drive goes even further and utilizes that metadata to target personalized ads to you. So while these providers take a lot of security precaution that your content doesn't get public internally do they have access to it. However at goodpanies like Google Dropbox Microsoft etc. there are very strict policies against developers to access a customer's data and usually it's logged. Bottom-line is that to take advantage of the cloud you have to give up a certain amount of privacy. If you are truly particular about privacy then your best bet is to encrypt all your files in an external hard drive and keep your private key in a separate location. That way no one can read your files except you.

Buffer Official Buffer Buffer started as a simple web app for buffering your tweets to be sent out throughout the day automatically. The idea was that not every part of the day is perfect to tweet and also that sending too many tweets one after another might put off your followers. Buffer has grown a lot since then and now lets you manage your Twitter Facebook and LinkedIn accounts all at the same time. Plus you get access to full analytics and click stats for every account. Microsoft thing is a new addition to the App Store while Evernote has been with us for quite a while. Both tools support pictures lists quick notes to-do lists and so on. OneNote notes can be created on iPad and iPhone apps as well as through the native desktop software 3 Microsoft OneNote. Evernote on the other hand offers apps for Windows Mac iOS Android BlackBerry and more so in some cases it can be the more functional choice. Actually my opinion is kind of biased because Ive been using Evernote for years and am quite used to it. 9. TopNotes for iOS Official TopNotes s Various visual note taking apps are very trendy nowadays. The idea is that you can work with your iPad or iPhone just like with a piece of paper. This means that you can select various pens pencils colors and create a great looking note incorporating your own hand-made drawings charts diagrams sketches or whatever else. The only problem with most apps like this that Ive tested is that there are simply too many in-app purchases. Usually you get just one pen and one color and if you want to customize your note in any way you have to pay (sometimes insane amounts of money). This is not the case with TopNotes and that why it made the list. It offers a number of brushes right off the bat and you don have to pay extra for the privilege to change the color. In short the app just works with no hassle. 1. AOL Reader or Digg Reader Official AOL Reader and Digg Reader Since Google Reader is now dead it about time to find a replacement.
